Because Adobe updates without the browser, or launches the browser if it needs to. I see it when I update my Firefox on Windows, and it downloads the file and I later install it. Yes, they are trying to find ways their Flash won't get compromised.

alert its users, why wouldn't it pop up when my computer is online? I was
