Does anyone know of any 3rd party P&ID plug-ins or add-ons for AutoCAD 2011? We are being asked by an increasing number of customers to supply P&ID schematics, and while it is not difficult to create them with standard AutoCAD, it is time consuming. AutoCAD P&ID would seem to be an obvious time saving solution, but rather pricey. If there is a (reliable) 3rd party option for a reasonable price, we would like to try it out rather than invest in another version of AutoCAD.

Lots of P&ID packages are available, and have been updated to run under AutoCAD 2011. They vary in cost and capability but be wary of the intelligent ones. They work wonders for grass roots drawings but are virtually useless for updating existing drawings you get from most clients. Don't be surprised if the client wants "dumb" files back either, as they (and everybody else) want to make changes without requiring exactly the same package you used to make the drawings.
