Photoshop CS5 vs. Lightroom vs. Photoshop Elements

I would start with Elements 9, the basic version. See how you like it first. Register with Adobe, and after the first year you might see an upgrade to CS5 with a discounted price. The full version of Adobe CS5 is very powerful and a lot too learn. You can do everything with CS5. Elements 9 will let you do most of what you need, to enhance still photos, for under a hundred bucks. Most people don't recommend Lightroom because Elements is cheaper and possibly because they thing Elements does more. Typically it is more like they haven't tried Lightroom. If I were to suggest, I'd tell you to download the Lightroom trial and play with it. It seems complicated at first, but once you play with it and learn the interface, it is great. For newbies to editing, this is a great place to start.
