Proper deployment procedure |Windows 7 Installation | Windows 7 Guide

I was wondering what Microsoft officially recommends in regards to image deployment. I know they have WAIK and MDT. I have been using Ghost to copy images. Also, we have OEM keys for all our computers. Is it ok to use one OEM key on all the computers since they all have a Certificate or does Microsoft require that I change the key on each computer to match the key on the Certificate.

Thanks.

No, I was talking about “big league manufacturers”. They have special license that is tied to the BIOS of particular model. These computers do not need activation after they are run for the first time (in technical jargon this is called OOBE, or “Out of the box experience”)

If you have “ordinary” OEM media, such computers can be imaged after they are activated. But, when such image is restored to a different computer, even if it is the same model, the activation mechanism inside Windows will detect that it is running inside different hardware and will initiate a new activation. A user then needs to complete activation either via Internet or telephone. Each computer deployed with OEM media must have a unique license key to be legal.
