I plan on purchasing a PC desktop in the near future that I will be using for Industrial Design purposes. I will use such programs as Alias and Solidworks on it in regrads to 3D modeling and will also be using Adobe Creative Suite 4. I am unsure of what I need to get for the computer to run smoothly with these programs. Any help would be appriciated. Thank you!
A quad core processor, either core2 quad or i7. You want at least 4 GB of DDR3 ram (6-8 GB if you plan on running several of those programs at once) and try to find a speed that is at least 1333 or higher. Get a graphics card that is either in the ATI Radeon 4000 or 5000 series with 1GB of GDDR5 (i wouldn’t even recommend Nvidia because ATI outperforms their cards at a fraction of the cost) and at least a 500GB hard drive that is 7200 RPM. The monitor is up to you of course and the motherboard/Power supply doesn’t really matter because whatever brand you buy from will take care of the compatibilities with that for you. I would suggest looking into the Dell XPS line and possibly getting one of those. You could get something with those specs for around $1000. The more you spend the faster it’ll be of course, but you’re looking at spending at least $1000 to get a computer that will run those programs flawlessly. Good luck and enjoy your new computer!
