Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat comes with the built-in GNOME Document Viewer application, which is pretty good for viewing PDF files. But it you need to install Adobe Reader 9.4 for some reason (such as a PDF file that only works with Adobe Reader), it is fairly simple to do.
First, visit Adobe’s download site for Reader:
http://get.adobe.com/reader/
On the page, click the “Different Language Or Operating System”. Select Linux as your operating system, an appropriate language for your needs, and for the version choose “Reader 9.4 for Linux (.deb)”, and then click the “Download Now” button. After the file has finished downloading, double-click on it to launch the installer.
You’ll be redirected to the Ubuntu Software Center. Click on the Install button to beging the installation. After you’ve authenticated with your password, follow the prompts to install Adobe Reader.
Once the installation is complete, you can launch Adobe Reader by going to the Applications Menu, the Office category, and clicking on the Adobe Reader 9 icon.
