How to set-up tethered shooting in Lightroom 3 | zestforphotography

I have my own home studio lights set-up which I use for portrait shots. I prefer natural light but like experimenting. I have recently got frustrated with trying to gauge exposure on the back of the camera. I have got a light meter but when trying to light something creatively that frustrates me as well. What I need is to view the images on my Macbook as I shoot.

The great new is Lightroom 3 now supports tethered shooting. It was possible to shoot tethered in previous versions of Lightroom by setting up an import folder and using your camera’s native capture software. In my case this is EOS Utility as I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II. Lightroom 3 however has tethered shooting support built in for certain cameras .

I’m not going to explain how to set-up tethered shooting in Lightroom 3, you can read . I am going to explain what didn’t work for me though. I connected my camera to my Macbook Pro with a 5m USB cable. Lightroom correctly recognized my camera but every time I took a shot the image would never transfer to Lightroom. I experimented with changing the image quality to reduce file sizes. Nothing made a difference. In Lightroom all I saw was the message “Transferring Image”.

Sorry for such a big post. Finally.. The Lightroom app is more important than the tethered/untethered control. That would be just a very cool to have, though.
