Well first, you would have to type the word document vertically because that is how all word processing programs are made, but you can change the page setup from a portrait, which is as you said: taller than it is wide to a landscape: wider than it is tall when printing. The help section on your word program should help you with that. On my word processing program though, I can just go to File and then Page Setup to do that.
