It’s a credit to Windows XP is so solidly entrenched in enterprise that after a decade’s lifespan even the all-time fastest-selling OS on Earth, Windows 7 , can’t seem to break its fingers and wrestle it aside… but that stubborn refusal to move on is costing Microsoft and billions in support fees.
Why won’t enterprise customers move on to Windows 7? Expensive corporate intranets that they can’t risk having go down even for a day in a company-wide migration. Windows XP works, and no one wants to screw around with something that works when there’s millions of dollars on the line.
That’s why it’s no surprise that a study by Dimensional Research polling 950 IT professionals showed that half of those surveyed wouldn’t upgrade their company’s computers to Windows XP by April 2014, the month Microsoft has announced it will officially cease support for XP.
