Do I need to install Vista or Windows XP 7 “upgrade”? « Windows ...

Hi everybody, I have only a tiny question! I’m thinking to get student and Windows 7 Upgrade for $ 29.99. I noticed that the offer is for students for the upgrade, it means that I have to be to an owner of Vista or XP first? In other words, would be the version I get enough to be installed on my Mac, or do I have the latest Windows 7 to get it on my Mac installieren.Danke, Best Answer:

The upgrade discs need to see a prior genuine version of Windows to install — 2000, XP, or Vista. That’s their difference.

You can then do upgrade or fresh installs regardless of disc type.

If you don’t have a prior genuine version of Windows, you’d have to buy the “full” discs, but it doesn’t have to be Ultimate.

You may at some point also find student discounts on the full versions. There should be an academic software supplier somewhere at the least.

Hello,

The student discount you are referring to is for an upgrade only. There may be student deals available closer to release to look for- but if you are interested in upgrading to Windows 7 and would like this when it is available on October 22, 2009 you can pre-order here: http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Windows-Windows-7/category/102 .
