The 5970 will be faster, especially at high resolutions, but reading around and seeing how many people whine about driver issues and which version of the driver is best, and the fact that someone can say that a game is choppy on the HD5970 due to drivers scares me. A $469 card experience should be pain-free and I'd rather go for something that uses a little less power than an HD5970. I am missing nVidia and it's stableish drivers, I think I might be springing for a GTX580 when I order my Sandy Bridge system next year, and I've been thinking about this a lot. It would be sweet to play Crysis 2 in 3D as well and seeing as Cry Engine 3 is designed for 3D and only has a 1.5% performance hit in 3D, nVidia would be the better choice if you are pursuing that technology. ATI has been kind of secretive with it's new 3D technology and requires that you have the glasses along with your monitor. The newer 3D monitors don't come with glasses and I don't think Nvidia's 3D vision kit works with ATI GPUs....
