Yes you should be able to install this version without any issues, as long as everything is cool with your computer currently, (IE, no viruses, no spy-ware, no bad sectors, or bad ram). I would recommend turning off all things running in the background before trying the installation.
The difference between full version XP Pro and this academic XP Pro Upgrade is the full version would have to be installed on a drive without an operating system. What you describe is an upgrade. This can be installed over the top of Windows 2000. Since it is academic, and only schools, libraries, etc should get this type of media, you might have a problem activating it, especially if you are not the intended customer. If you are able to activate it you will see all the same features of XP Pro, because that is what it is, there are no differences in content.
